Regards “Ogenki desu ka (お元気ですか.) watashi wa genki desu (私は元気です。)
(How are you? I am doing well.)”
The desperate lines shouted by Hiroko toward the white snowy field in a movie “Love Letter, 1995” cannot be forgotten by us. They are very common and ordinary words, but the words being echoed back failing to reach the loved one made us feel heart-sore.
Not as much as “Love Letter”, but our regards as we face the contactless era starting with COVID-19 are as painful as the words. COVID-19 stole our daily lives. It became a good manner to wear a mask over the mouth and not talk to others, if possible.
That is not all. Outings were reduced and a series of appointments were delayed. Even the way of greeting has changed. “See you later if COVID-19 calms down.” However, no one knows when the vaccines will be released, so there is no promise when we can meet again laughing.
If COVID-19 continues as it is, social distancing will inevitably continue. Then, the distance between people will become farther, and communication will be reduced more and more. Would it be good to get away from us like this?
Even though the number of times that we have to look in the eyes and face to face decreased, it seems that living while reporting their survival so that we do not forget each other is a virtue of living in the era of COVID-19. So, why don’t we try to overcome this difficult time together by supporting each other with a friendly greeting?
Certainly, the best regards in warm handwriting will bring us closer. So, let’s smile at each other and ask how we are doing like “How are you?”
