HELVETICA

Like a goddess in Greek mythology or a general in a Nordic legend, hevetica is a serene and sophisticated font that can make sweet sentences such as “i love you!” sound modern. It is font based from an old swiss name called “hevetia” and a branch of a celtic tribe who were the ancestors of the swiss. Modern swiss typography can be found in the 1920s and 1930s, and it saw a resurgence after world war two.

Max Miedinger (1910~1980), the designer, was an employee at a print foundry, introduced the name “helvetia” through the german company Stempel. With a modern image and the stability, accuracy, and relaibility of san serif, it has a place in our lives from the identity design of airlines such as Lufthansa and American airlines, to signs in the New York subway. 1)
Popular in the 1960s and 1970s, helvetica lost popularity for some times until recently the northern European style came back. Unlike classic fonts, it is more modern and popular with the younger demographic.
